Director Shannon Daykin designed a bespoke, collaborative process for clients to negotiate on the transfer of rights and responsibilities of a child from birth, reaching agreement during the Birth Mother’s pregnancy and guiding clients to obtaining legally binding orders.
This process gained national media attention in May 2015 in The Weekend Australian Magazine via cover article “One needy baby meets loving new parents. Who says adoption is taboo?”
The process draws on the best practice guidelines for pre-birth agreements set out in the Surrogacy Act 2010 (QLD) and the clear legislative pathway in deciding what is in a child’s best interests as provided for in the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth). It is a process that must be managed with expert skill, sensitivity and technical know-how.
